Our clinic has an orthoptic department. Our employee Ruth Boer-van der Linden (orthoptist) performs all examinations to investigate the binocularity. Squinting, restriction of the movement and strabismic angles can be measured.
She also performs Skiascopies to determine objectively any refractive errors. Last but not least she advises in the occlusion therapy in case of the treatment of amblyopia in children.
If the treatment of amblyopie is succesfully performed this does not mean that the strabismic angle will deminish. To induce a permanent reduction of the squinting a surgical procedure is necessary. In cooperation with the ophthalmologist the orthoptist defines the dosage of the surgical treatment. She will then inform the patient or his/her parent. This outpatient operations are performed predominantly under general anesthesia.
